Every element of the Tobler Triangle is stainless steel (except for the vise grip handle) so it won’t give off any dangerous fumes and is fully torch and kiln tolerant. The mandrels are all 3/32". The 5” vise grip makes a great handle because it allows you to flip your TT around every which way, yet at that critical final moment when you need to remove your handle FAST and pop that big bead immediately into the kiln, just a flick of your pinkie releases it while you simultaneously grab the plate of the TT with a long nosed pliers for reaching into your kiln. You may not even need to use the handle if you’re working in a smaller flame, but I find it gives me better leverage than holding the plate itself.

Every mandrel can be positioned within the neck of its bolt fastener at any angle and at any length from the plate before being tightened down with a flick of your fingers on a wing nut. You can make their ends meet or even cross them for X beads. The plate is thin which keeps the whole unit as light as possible, which you’ll discover is very important when holding such a big tool in your flame for any length of time.

Far more shapes than V’s, U’s, Y’s, and X’s are possible if you get creative with thin copper or steel wire, spanning it between your mandrels.

Removing your mandrels from the plate is as easy as twirling open one or more wing nuts and backing one or more bolts out of the plate. Coaxing a U-Bead off its curved mandrel pair is easy or tricky depending on how long your bead is and how generous you’ve been with your bead release (the thicker, the better), but you’ll soon master it every time.

Your Tobler Triangle kit will include:
2 V-bead mandrels
2 U-bead mandrels
1 center mandrel
1 mandrel stub (for making a V-Bead with a hole at its apex; not necessary for 3rd hole in U-beads)
1 base plate
3 bolts with wing nuts
1 vise grip handle
thorough instructions (including how to thread cord through a V-Bead!)

My production costs are very high on these, but this tool should last you a lifetime, with the possible exception of the mandrels if you should bend them, but replacements will be available from me, as will all parts.
